N.J. State Police has a ‘long and notorious history’ of discrimination, lawyer says. Will it ever change?

Women serving with the New Jersey State Police were told they were “liabilities on the road” or “not tough enough for the job.”

Troopers of color were told that “just because you’re Black doesn’t make you a good cop.”

And overwhelmingly, they mostly kept quiet, “attempting to ‘tough it out’ so that they would not be labeled ‘difficult’ or a ‘troublemaker,’ and hopefully accepted by the group.”
